Formations of a Diasporic Body

Svadhyaya: Self Portraiture as Self-Study

Svādhyāya is the Sanskrit word for self-study. It is also one of the niyamas (observances/tenets) of yoga practice. Through introspection, we can gain better understanding of ourselves, of both our conscious and subconscious. This creates room for personal growth and the ability to relate to and understand the external world. The process of self-portraiture is, for me, a process of discovery, play, grief, celebration, prayer, and poetry.
